back to topConservation is very important to the owners of Desroches Island, the development from the outset was to protect and nurture the island by building on government initiatives .
The garden which grows much of the produce served in the restaurants on the island is organic, using composted waste material for ensure the local ecology is undamaged by cultivation.
The Desroches Foundation and Fund is responsible for the environmental stewardship of the island, it works with an NGO called the Island Conservation Society which is working with a number of islands to ensure the improvement and preservation of the unique natural wonders of the Seychelles.

The construction of the resort has been wherever possible inline with current practices of sustainable construction. The structures and furniture are made from Casurina trees which is a non-indigeonus hardwood, found on the island introduced prior to the island long before the current owners took control of the island.
Watersports, and fishing are controlled in order to ensure the marine habit is not disturbed, and that the many species present around the island can thrive.
The Desroches Foundation and Fund have created a conservation project in which guests can become involved if they so wish. Guests can donate and adopt a tortoise and assist in monitoring and other research to insure the future of this incredible animal. Or guest can plant an native tree and they by help to sustain the future health of the islands eco system.
